In modern cities almost 90% of average life time of a citizen is spent inside a building.  A building accounts for 40% of energy use, 12% of total water consumption, 68% of electricity consumption, 38% of CO2 emissions and 60% of non-industrial waste generation on an average. Here comes the importance of green building which reduces pollution and offers safe and sustainable solution to its occupants. Although green buildings are costlier than conventional buildings apparently but on the long run they are profitable based on the life cycle cost.

Certain grading systems are adapted in USA to standardize people, building or any organization by UGBC (United Green Building Council). Buildings can become LEED certified, people can become LEED accredited and firms become USGBC national members. Likewise Indian Green Building Council offers IGBC certification. Which categorize the buildings into Platinum, Gold and Silver and certifies professionals as IGBC consultants. Both LEED and IGBC certification is available to international students.
