Overview- 10.56 Hybrid Solar Power Plant
Bharat Sevashram Sangha is a philanthropic and charitable organization founded by Acharya Swami Pranavanandaji Maharaj in 1917. The sole purpose of this nonprofit organization is to improve the lives of the underprivileged. The members have dedicated their lives to serving the weak and deprived citizens and uplifting them. The first ashram was established in the hometown of Acharya Swami Pranavanandaji Maharaj in Bangladesh, and later it branched out to most of the cities of India and abroad.
The client required a grid-connected Hybrid Solar Power Plant capable of storing energy in a battery bank and using the stored energy during a power cut.
Now a grid-connected Hybrid Solar Rooftop Power Plant is dependent upon the municipality’s electrical grid. The DC electricity generated by the photovoltaic (PV) panels is sent through a grid-tied inverter, which converts it to AC power compatible with the grid. It provides electricity at night and during cloudy days, but in case there is a power cut. It would cease to work since grid-tied solar panels are designed to stop producing electricity during an outage to protect the electrical workers from working on live power lines. It is called ‘Grid Islanding.’ To curb this problem, SunShell Power came up with a solution to install a hybrid solar power plant. With a hybrid setup, the solar battery is used as a backup if the grid goes down. Not only that, but since the battery is used as a backup instead of full-time dependence, this helps in extending the battery life and relieves the user from having to buy a backup generator.
In this project, 10.56 kW Hybrid Solar Rooftop Power Plant, 32 units of 72 cells polycrystalline of 330Wp solar modules were used. To make the structure weather protected, a GI Structure with 85micron of galvanization thickness was implemented. A 10 kWp Solar Hybrid Inverter was also included in this structure to run both the grid export and the battery backup feature. The battery used is a 120V Tubular Gel battery bank with 29 kWh of battery backup in a full load. An AJP with SPD Type II 1000V 40kA on a PV string fuse 1000V 15A has been included in the structure to protect the panels from the reverse flow of current. For further protection, SunShell also included an ACDB with AC side SPD, indication LED lights, and suitable MCBs with an inbuilt digital multi-feature energy meter capable of showing real-time voltage, current, power, energy, etc., and protecting against high voltages. There is also a termination system present at the LT side 415V. SunShell didn’t neglect the lightning arrestor, which is installed with dedicated earthing. Lastly, in compliance with IS 3043, suitable earthing protection is also equipped within the system.
